MALAYSIA: BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES

Today theSpain Asean Businees Association (Asempea) held a new Webinar. This time the invited country was Malaysia and the attendees were updated on the situation that Malaysia is currently going through as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and, looking ahead, the outlook for economic growth. They also had the chance to know which sectors offer opportunities for foreign investors.

As usual, the event was presented and moderated by Mr. Tomás González, Asempea’s Chairman, and the speakers were the Ambassador of Malaysia to Spain, H.E. Mr. Akmal Che Mustafa, and the Director of the Paris MIDA (Malaysia Investment Development Authority)’s Office, Mr. Pravinganesha Rajoo.

Both the Ambassador and the Director of MIDA encouraged Spanish companies to learn more about the Malaysian market in order to do business in it. They inform the attendees about the incentives in force, the short-term economic recovery plan and, finally, talked about the sectors that currently present the best opportunities for investors, such as: electronics, machinery, chemicals, medical devices, aerospace, automotive, transport, textile, pharmaceutical, metal and processed food.

Yesterday, February 25, a lunch-meeting was held between the Counselor for Economic Affairs of the Embassy of Malaysia, Mr. Pravinganesha Rajoo, the Chairman of our Association, Mr. Tomás González, and the Secretary General, Mr. Antonio Viñal. During the lunch it was agreed to explore possibilities for collaboration between the Embassy and ASEMPEA.

At our Association’s headquarters, H.E. Akmal Bin Che Mustafa, Ambassador of Malaysia to Spain and current President of the Asean Group in Madrid, delivered this morning a speech to our partners and guests. He explained the characteristics of Asean as an Intergovernmental Organization of Southeast Asian States and the Asean Economic Community as a forum for regional integration, aiming to become the fourth largest economy in the world by 2050.

TALK-COLLOQUIUM «CULTURE AND PROTOCOL IN THE WAY OF DOING BUSINESSHE ASEAN»

Today, January 7, 2020, in our Association’s headquarters, took place a Talk-Colloquium about “CULTURE AND PROTOCOL IN THE WAY OF DOING BUSINESS IN THE ASEAN”, with the participation of Mr. Carlos Gastón, representative of BBVA in South-East Asia for more than twenty years.

The Talk focused on the Asean countries’ specific features that all companies should take into account when doing business in these countries, as well as on the business opportunities the latter offer to Spanish companies throughout this year.

BUSINESS MEETING ON «INCOTERMS 2020»

Today, December 12, in our Association’s headquarters, we held a business meeting on “INCOTERMS 2020”, given by Mr. Cesar Jiménez, of Kerry Logistics.

The presentation focused on the different types of Incoterms, the main differences between the Incoterms 2010 and the new Incoterms 2020 and, finally, on how importers, exporters, logistic companies and custom companies will be affected by the latter.
